All Starz Gymnasts Finish A Successful Season
The All Starz Gymnastics Team concluded their 2009-2010 Season with a strong finish at their home meet.  The Cartoon Classic Invitational was held at All Starz Academy in Kingman on April 30-May 2nd.  It was the largest turnout ever at a Kingman meet with nearly 250 contestants throughout the weekend.  The following teams traveled to compete against the All Starz:  The Acrobrats from Hesperia, CA, Flagstaff Gymnastics and Summit Gymnastics Academy both from Flagstaff, Prescott Lightning from Prescott, and the Arizona Sunrays and Southwest Gymnastics from the Phoenix area.  The 24 member All Starz Team had contestants ages 7-18 competing in Level 4, 5, Prep Optional, 7, 8, and 9.  The All Starz won first place team titles in Level 5, 7, 8, and 9, second place in Prep Optional, and 4th place in Level 4.  The Cartoon Classic is a unique competition in that it was also open to the All Starz Recreational Students of all ages & levels.  Their were exhibition sessions which included babies and preschool aged gymnasts, then all of the recreational class levels were split by age & level to compete against each other.  It was an exciting and rewarding weekend for all of the contestants and their families.

Prior to the Cartoon Classic the All Starz had all four of their Level 8 & 9 gymnasts qualify to the Regional Championships in Long Beach, CA on April 8-11.  Level 8’s Brooke McFarland and Sydney Tribbett qualified, as did Level 9’s Briana Mecom & Leigh Becker.  It is a big honor to even qualify to Regionals as the competition is stiff.  13 yr. old Briana Mecom came away with a 6th place medal on Beam.

The All Starz Level 7-9 Gymnasts attended their State meet on March 20-21, and the All Starz Level 4 & 5’s attended their Spring State meet on April 17-18.  Both State meets were held in Phoenix, AZ.  All Starz now has seven more State Champions to add to their wall of fame.  Level 9 - Leigh Becker won 5 bronze medals and Briana Mecom won one silver.  Level 5 – Pamela Wright became the all around champion and won 4 golds, Trysta Rucker won 1 silver and 3 bronze medals, and Olivia Diaz won 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.  Level 4 – Briana Hecker won one silver.  All Starz Program Director Brandee Proffit noted:  “Since the Kingman gym’s founding in 1987 (when it was formerly named North Star Gymnastics) there are now a total of 400 State Titles which have been won by Kingman Gymnasts!  This is a huge accomplishment for a small town gym.  We appreciate all of the local support which has made it possible for so many gymnasts to be able to compete”.  The All Starz Gymnastics team is coached by head coach Raelene Mecom, Brandee Proffit, Jennifer Coffee, Jessica Studderkoph, Heather Oder, Porsche Youssef, and Leigh Becker.

Now that the All Starz Gymnastic’s Competitive season has concluded they will continue training through the Summer until the Fall Season starts up at the end of September.  They will be moving up approximately 18 new Team Members, moving up some existing team members to higher levels,  and doing many promotions with the class students throughout the levels.  “Gymnastics is a year round sport.  Through the Summer our gymnasts will focus on learning and perfecting higher level skills plus on increased strength and flexibility training.  We keep them motivated with an exciting curriculum that incorporates goal setting, charts, games, contests, and positive reinforcement.  Then in the Fall & Spring we focus primarily on their competitive routines and skills.  We have a group of gymnasts who have a fantastic chance of earning college scholarships if they continue to excel in the sport at their current rate.  It is very exciting to watch them progress!  Gymnastics provides a fantastic foundation of strength, speed, grace, balance, and coordination all of which can contribute to success in other sports.  Many of our gymnasts and former gymnasts are standouts in other sports.  Former All Starz Competitive Team members Mariah Moon & Lindsey Reed recently received college scholarships in swimming and in basketball.  Both were successful gymnasts first.” – Brandee Proffit.

All Starz will start their Summer Schedule on Monday, June 7th.  They have a staff of 16 coaches and will offer 60 dance and gymnastics classes per week.  There will be something for everyone in the family to choose from:  classes for babies and toddlers, school aged children, teens, boys gymnastics classes, fitness classes, tumbling and trampoline, and also a new adult gymnastics class.
